Syncell Spatial Proteomics Technology Exchange and NTUCDBRM Faculty–Student Networking Session

Syncell Inc., founded in 2020, is a biotechnology company specializing in subcellular protein purification and spatial transcriptomics analysis. Headquartered in Taipei with operations in the United States, the company’s technology originates from the research of its founder, Dr. Jung-Chi Liao, at Academia Sinica. Syncell is dedicated to developing next-generation, high-precision proteomics platforms. Its core Microscoop platform integrates microscopy-guided targeting, photochemical labeling, artificial intelligence-based image analysis, and mass spectrometry, enabling region-specific protein labeling and isolation within cells or tissues. This approach allows hypothesis-free exploration of spatial proteomics. Compared to conventional antibody-based protein detection methods, this technology provides a more comprehensive identification of previously unknown protein compositions and enhances the understanding of disease-related molecular mechanisms. In addition, the platform enables high-resolution analysis at single-cell and even subcellular levels, with broad applications in cancer research, neurodegenerative diseases, immunology, and drug development, facilitating the discovery of novel biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets.
On March 6, 2026, at 1:30 PM, our Center hosted an online discussion focusing on Syncell’s microscopy-guided technology. Dr. Jung-Chi Liao, CEO of Syncell Inc., was invited as the keynote speaker and delivered a presentation entitled “Microscopy-Guided Unbiased Spatial Proteomics for Mechanistic Discovery.” In his talk, Dr. Liao introduced the principles and applications of the technology, explaining how microscopy-guided approaches enable unbiased spatial proteomic analysis to reveal molecular interactions and microenvironmental features at the single-cell level. Participants further discussed the potential applications of this technology in elucidating molecular mechanisms in complex tissues, tumor microenvironments, and organ development, and explored possibilities for cross-laboratory collaborations, providing valuable insights for the Center’s future research directions.

4:30 PM of the same day, the Center held an informal gathering with selected Center members as well as students from the Institute of Biotechnology and the Bachelor Degree of Biotechnology and Food Nutrition at the College of Bioresources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University. During the gathering, faculty members discussed the Center’s recent activity planning and operational arrangements, including the organization of the Professor Fon-Jou Hsieh Memorial Symposium and Interdisciplinary Forum, upcoming interdisciplinary and international symposia, and the publication of the Center’s newsletter. At the same time, faculty members expressed care and support for students’ well-being, learning, and research progress, with particular attention to the pressures they may face in their academic and research work. The gathering provided an opportunity for interaction and exchange between faculty and students, strengthening community engagement and cohesion within the Center.
